'Connected Home' provider to compete for national crown at the British Chambers of Commerce Awards in London
5 October 2009 – Intamac Systems Ltd, provider of web-based monitoring and control systems in Northampton, has been named East Midlands’ Entrepreneur of the Year, sponsored by Staples.
Founded in 2000, Intamac has pioneered a web-based service that allows customers to remotely monitor and control devices in their home. Judges praised the technology firm for ‘becoming a local success story and a worldwide supplier with an enviable pace of growth’. It’s already a winner of two UK government awards and various other international accolades for innovation.
“Despite the difficult economic climate, businesses across the country are continuing to succeed, overcoming obstacles by adopting innovative ideas and motivating their people,” said John Dunsmure, managing director of the British Chambers of Commerce. “Intamac is a great example of the very best of UK business and I wish them success in the national finals.”
Clinching a national award would give Intamac the chance to compete for the ‘Winner of Winners’ £50,000 cash prize. This goes to the category winner that judges believe stands out from the rest.
There are eight categories, backed by high profile sponsors including Royal Bank of Scotland, BT, Dell, Westfield Health, fdf (Foundation Degree Forward) and AXA PPP Healthcare. The national winners will be announced at a ceremony at the National Maritime Museum in London on 26 November.
“It’s a great honour to win an award for Entrepreneur of the Year from the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce,” said Kevin Meagher, CEO of Intamac. “Our technology allows people to remotely access their home through a web account or mobile phone. Such services will continue to become more important as people recognise the need to monitor and control not just their security settings, but also the energy consumption and status of their homes in general. It’s part of the home of the future, and gives real power and control to the consumer.”
